Learn about the unique preparation method and ingredients that make this drink so special
Welcome back to our world coffee column, where we explore the different coffee cultures from around the globe. Today, we find ourselves in Australia, surrounded by kangaroos and ready to explore the most popular drinks in bars.
One of the most beloved coffee drinks in Australia is the latte. Now, in our country (I am in Italy!), we might think of "latte" as simply "milk," but in Australia, it's a whole different story. A latte is a delicious blend of coffee and milk, much like a cappuccino, but with its own unique twist.
So, how is this popular Australian drink prepared? It's actually quite simple. Here's what you'll need:
Coffee
Fresh milk (or flavored milk if you prefer)
Procedure:
To start, prepare an espresso directly in a large cup, the kind you might use for your breakfast milk. Then, pour enough milk into a milk jug to fill a cup.
Next, use the steam wand of your coffee machine to froth the milk. Hold the milk jug by the handle and slowly make vertical movements up and down so that the milk can incorporate air and create foam. The bubbles will gradually get smaller and smaller until you have a lovely frothy consistency.
Using a spoon, remove and store the top of the freshly whipped milk (basically the foam), and pour the rest of the milk into the cup along with the coffee. Finally, add the previously stored foam into the cup, and there you have it - a delicious and creamy Australian latte!
In conclusion, the latte is a must-try coffee drink for anyone visiting Australia. Its creamy texture and unique blend of coffee and milk make it a favorite among locals and tourists alike. So why not experience the unique flavors of Australian coffee culture for yourself?
